Full face helmets are the type of helmets which completely cover your face. You own this kind of helmet? Great, because I am now going to show you how to take care of it and make them last longer. Most bikers have problems with the maintenance of these helmets. There are many things to take care of-visor, padding, cleaning the helmet etc etc. That doesn’t mean every time you need to run to the nearby shop for a replacement. In the next few paragraphs I would explain how to maintain your helmets in quick and easy ways.

Full Face Helmets For Motorcycles

Changing the visors on a helmet

Visors are the glass or fiber screen which protects you from the dust, smoke and the sun. A visor is the most important part of helmets full face type. ‘Hey, my visor is gone, what can I do about it? All riders face this question. A visor can develop a crack or break if something bangs into it. A damaged visor is of no use and can be dangerous if used without getting it fixed. That does not mean you will need a replacement. You can always change the visor by yourself without any expert help. The first thing to do when the visor breaks is to get a new visor of the exact size. Now you must replace your old visor with the one you bought. Difficult, you say? It is not. First you need to check if your visor has a sun guard. If yes, then get the tabs on the each side of the helmet and pull them in front to remove the sun guard. Visors come with a pivoting mechanism which allows the movement of the visor. Remove the cover on them and pull out the spring clip. Then remove the old visor by pulling it out. Set the new visor in place and then reverse the whole mechanism. After fixing the new visor take the protective cover out. Then replace the sun shield and clean the new visor with a cloth. You are now good to go for a ride!

Cleaning the helmet

Oh... how thrilling is to ride a bike. But biking has its own disadvantages. In motorcycle full face helmets save you from the dust and stain but gets dirty in the process. Now, you won’t like wearing a dirty helmet, would you? Cleaning the helmet is very important as it helps in increasing its life span. Cleaning a helmet is a very simple process and only takes household items to do it. First of all let us start with the visor as it is the place where most of the impurities are accumulated. For the outermost part use a wet towel over it. After some time it will soak the impurities. Then clean it up with a dry paper towel. For the inside rub it with a paper towel but be careful to do it gently because you would not want to scratch the protective layers. For the inside of the helmet, two things can be done. If your helmet linings are removable, then remove the linings and wash them separately, otherwise soak the helmet and scrub the insides until it is clean for you. For the outermost parts, use some mild detergent and scrub away the stains. Wash it in hot water. Dry the helmet using the paper towels and use some polish to give shine to the outer body. Your helmet is now as good as new and is ready again for the challenges outside.

Relining and re-padding the helmet

So your helmet linings are damaged? You feel it is finally time to buy a new helmet and say goodbye to the old one? Sit back, rider. If you think you cannot replace the padding then think again. It is possible for you to replace the padding in your full face motorcycle helmets. The first thing you need to do is to get rid of the old padding. Adhesive remover can be used for this purpose. With the help of an old cloth remove the lining and the padding by applying adhesive remover. You should be careful as you would not want to damage your beloved helmet. Then you need to see that the padding fits the helmet perfectly or not. If not make it fit by cutting it. You would also want to have the fabric be of the same size and fit. After this, apply the adhesive and gently place the new padding so as it fits perfectly. After that, apply the fabric over the padding to fit the helmet. Let the adhesive dry. There you are with your old loved helmet which is now padded and relined.

Benefits of Modular Helmets – Why Are they a Must Have?

Modular helmets are a recent type of motorcycle helmets with a flip front that can be used to make the open face helmets when flipped upwards and full-face helmets when it is flipped downwards. Most of them have both a raisable face section and chinbar. Of course, when you are riding your motorbike, you have to flip their front downwards. When compared to other traditional types of helmets, they present a number of advantages or benefits. This perhaps should be seen as the reasons why most motorcyclists are turning to them. So what are some of the benefits of these helmets?
Modular Helmets

First, they are more flexible since they can offer the flexibility of an open-faced helmet while giving you protection of a closed faced helmet when you flip the front section downwards. They therefore will allow you to enjoy the benefits of having both these two types of helmets at the same time without compromising your safety as in the case of open-faced helmets, which might not totally protect you. Furthermore, when you are not riding your motorcycle, you can flip the front section up as you have a conversation, eat or drink something. This makes them more social, without the need to remove your helmet to have a conversation and then replace it back.

Secondly, most people who wear glasses often find it difficult to wear the full-faced helmets. However, the design of the modular helmets makes it much easier for you to wear your glasses and ride your bicycle more comfortable. When wearing them, you will ensure the front face flip end is raised up to avoid them damaging your glasses. Once you have worn it, you can them flip the front section back to its place. Most people who wore glasses have initially depended on the less safe open-faced helmets and these helmets give them a great alterative.  Even the struggle of removing the full-faced helmets is also eliminated. Even for people who do not wear glasses, these types of helmets are much more comfortable and easy to wear.

Finally, the modular helmets have a novel design that helps them to offer maximum protection as you are riding your motorcycle. Other than the protection they offer in case of a crash, which is similar to the one of full-faced helmets, they will also ensure your eyes, neck, and ears are protected. Most of them had been designed to ensure rain, bugs, wind, dust, or rocks cause minimum distraction due to their war around design. Nevertheless, some models come with anti fog spray kits and other accessories that make them more appealing. With all the above benefits, when compared to full faced helmets; their prices are much more friendly.

Is it Crucial to Wear a Motorcycle Helmet? Very Frequently Asked Question

Bikers are frequently assessing the use and effectiveness of motorcycle helmets. Is it just a matter of partiality or are there really major concerns to be well thought-out?
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), bikers who wear helmets survive crashes and get less severe damages. As per the report, around 600 people are saved annually thanks to the motorcycle helmets.

Safety Motorcycle Helmets
Many people ask, "Motorbike helmets might keep your head safe, but can it improve odds of a wrecked neck?" Some autopsy studies carried out after deadly motorcycle disasters have exposed that the chances of neck injuries are same, whether one is wearing a helmet or not. Yet, many research findings encourage people to use helmets, as a helmet normally reduces the risk of head and brain damage considerably and does not raise risk of neck injury.
According to an Italian research, a helmet reduces injury chances by 66 percent. A Thailand research showed that, head injuries reduced by 41 percent in two years after helmets were declared compulsory in Thailand. A recent research in Kentucky has shown that brain injury enhanced by 4.3 times after people abandoned wearing helmets.

The Goldstein study has revealed the efficiency of bike helmets in accident circumstances. The findings state that: 1-Motor helmets have no considerable impact on the prospect of deadly accident. 2- They decrease the brutality of head injuries. 3-Helmets don’t affect harshness of neck injuries.
Almost all the bike manufacturing companies recommend wearing helmets for motorcycles. Harley-Davidson provides fundamental and highly developed training to more than 200 dealerships in thirty states. Honda is running 4 training centers while BMW is allowing for high quality training for experienced riders.
As per a recent report by US NHTSA, 24% of the deadly accidents in 2003 involved unlicensed bikers, and car drivers are accountable in around 2/3 of bike losses.

DOT Approved Motorcycle Helmets
US DOT research revealed that helmet use decreased to 52 percent in Arkansas and 66 percent in Texas after Helmet Law Repeal. In Arkansas, bike fatalities increased by 21 percent, while it increased by 31 percent in Texas.
A California court case brought light to standards needed to be set for qualifying a helmet as "secure and reliable". To see if a helmet passes or fails standard conditions, visit US Government "Compliance Testing of Motorcycle Helmets" or NHTSA.
So, with lots of aspects of helmet use and bearing in mind the advantages and disadvantages, I am in favor of wearing a helmet. You need to make your mind up for yourself!
